A soggy ending...

The B.C. and Canadian federal government are working to remove a sunken lodge that used to be located at the Point Roberts marina. The lodge was formerly a fishing lodge built on top of a barge and had been bought by then-marina owner Steve MacKay. had hoped to offer lodging in it.

For a variety of reasons, chiefly an inability to get county approval for sewage disposal, it was never used for that purpose. It was later sold and moved to Gowlland Harbour on Quadra Island, B.C. The barge partially sank from undetermined reasons on September 3, 2021, and has remained a blight on the harbor for island residents ever since.

With one end of the barge sitting on the seafloor, it has recently deteriorated further thus prompting the move by B.C. and Transport Canada.

No date for its removal has been set.
