Representative Rick Larsen visits the Point

U.S. Representative Rick Larsen visited Point Roberts on Friday, June 30 and met with Whidbey Telecom executives to discuss the recent $11.7 million fiber optic award the company will receive that was recently announced. Part of the award will be used to connect Point Roberts, the Lummi reservation and two San Juan islands with underwater fiber optic lines that will connect with the company’s internet background on Whidbey Island. Larsen then met with the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce and local business people.

Larsen then met with the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce and local business owners to hear directly about the staffing challenges Point Roberts businesses have faced during and since the COVID-19 pandemic. The ability to hire part-time workers from Canada was paramount on the list. Larsen said he is focused on investing in long-term economic growth that creates high-quality jobs and opportunity in Point Roberts, Whatcom County and the Pacific Northwest.
