When Sahiry Ireland hung her real estate shingle on the Point, her aim was to set her clients up with more than a new house. With what her husband Wez calls their “grander ecosystem of services,” the two are marketing Point Roberts as a destination for professionals fleeing crowded cities and looking for the perfect place to work from home.

Sahiry sold real estate for almost 15 years in Atlanta and San Francisco before moving to the Point two years ago. She is now licensed in Washington and joined Century 21 Bay Properties, located in Birch Bay, as their Point Roberts agent in early 2018.

“I’ve been looking at the market and looking at trends here over the last two years,” she said.

Right now she has more buyers than listings. Buyers are coming from everywhere, she said.

“They want to be close to the water yet close to Vancouver – you can still buy property close to the water for a million dollars here.”

Through her website sahiry.com, she uses photos, videos and drone footage to introduce Point Roberts to prospective buyers.

Wez has also relocated his business technology company, Evo Technica. An immediate hurdle, he said, was inadequate internet and cellular service. “It’s really one of the bottlenecks here,” he said.

Working with local service providers, Wez said he has found innovative solutions to enhance internet and cell phone service for local users, which he thinks will make the Point a more workable solution for people wanting to telecommute. “I’m working to increase the local technical equity,” he said.

Working together, Sahiry and Wez hope to bring more full-time residents and their incomes to the Point. “We need to attract the right buyers,” Wez said.

“If we get enough people going in the same direction, we can work with more service providers for better services,” he said, from internet providers to the border service agencies.
