One family has the Blaine police and the Border Patrol to thank this holiday season.

On Tuesday just after dark, Blaine police received a call from the Portland police department. They had learned that an Oregon resident who had threatened to commit suicide had used his cell phone close to the Canadian border.

2011: Another one bites the dust

After over a year of meetings, the Point Roberts Community Advisory Committee (PRCAC) took its first official action, approving a recommendation to Whatcom County about how to spend gas tax dollars collected on the Point: a streetlight.

November storm waves slam Point Roberts

High winds churned up the waters surrounding Point Roberts on Thanksgiving Day, causing sizable waves to crash into Maple Beach.

School district presses ahead with levy plan

Blaine school district voters will be asked to approve two tax measures on the special February 14 school election. In a quick 35-second vote, school board directors unanimously approved adding a $3 million capital projects bond initiative alongside the regular maintenance and operations (M&O) levy. The action took place at the board’s regular meeting November 28.
