The Point Roberts Emergency Preparedness Group (PREP) and the Point Roberts Registered Voters Association are teaming up to sponsor a community cleanup day.
On Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers will clean roadsides and ditches.
“We are asking all the groups who have adopted a road under the county’s litter collection program to organize a work group with their members and pick up litter on their adopted road on May 14,” voters association president Elizabeth Lantz said.
Volunteers will meet at Lighthouse Marine Park between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. to register, enjoy a cup of coffee and pick up supplies. “Subject to the quantities available from the county, we will supply safety vests, grabbers and plastic bags,” Lantz said.
Filled bags of litter may be left along the roads to be picked up by association and PREP members and taken to the dump afterward.
At noon, volunteers will return to Lighthouse Marine Park for a barbecue, where there also will be a donation bin to collect non-perishable food for the food bank.
