LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
The Editor:
I’d like to say thank you to the Point Roberts elementary school and staff for their help in making a three-day Christmas crafts project come to fruition for our local students.
It was Sharon Munroe’s final wish that the craft supplies from her Sunflowers shop be used up by the kids in Point Roberts to make Christmas decorations and presents for the season. Thank you to Ted Munroe for the very generous donation of more than 15 boxes of craft and art supplies we’ve used up this month.
Gary and Becky Becham at the old Cedar House Inn generously donated the storage space to hold it all this fall, and Autumn Hurlburt has been an angel in both helping me organize the stuff, and in coordinating the art projects for the kids.
Thank you so much to everyone who assisted in making this fun and creative opportunity come alive for the Point Roberts schoolchildren.

Editor:
Sea Kittens? My gut is still sore from laughing!
Ok, seriously ... Sea Kittens? Ho He har, oops there I go again. I love it! What a brilliant idea.
Of course we would not want to call them Sea Cats, I think that one is trademarked already and Sea Pussy? I think that boat already sailed. Doesn’t somebody realize that not even all cats are called kittens?
I propose that we stop eating them when they are small and fuzzy and wait until they are fully mature!
But wait! Why stop here? We want to rename a species in order to change our perception of them and therefore change our habits (killing and eating them, for example) so let’s look at a few:
Cattle – Pasture Pals
Pigs – Chubby Luvvies
Chickens – Fuzzy Chicks, hey wait a minute….
But Sea Kittens are intelligent! Of course they are. But then so are ants and termites, and perhaps even bacteria and viruses. Some sort of perceptive and adaptive and even cooperative behavior is necessary for the survival of pretty much any living organism. I know adult humans that exhibit five-year-old behavior but I have never accused them of having the brains of a fish … pardon me, sea kitten ... at least not yet.
Keep those ideas coming! We need more reading material for the long winter to come!
